Chapter 5 - THE EIGHT MEN WHO SAW NOTHING.

The deleted voicemail entered Jason’s military inbox during a classified briefing.

A civilian liaison named Thomas Vale marked it nonurgent after receiving a call from Victor. Thomas was one of the eight relatives standing in the hospital corridor.

He claimed he only wanted to keep Jason focused on national security.

Emily’s voice hardened.

“You protected his concentration by making my terror disposable.”

Marsh suspended Thomas’s base access and preserved every communication. The other relatives began admitting what they knew. One arranged the private room. Another persuaded security to switch off cameras. A third drafted statements calling Emily unstable.

They called their silence loyalty.

Claire replied, “Loyalty that requires a woman to beg behind a locked door is organized cowardice.”

The trust audit showed the relatives’ distributions came from denied ambulance claims and housing grants for deployed families.

Then Nurse Mary opened a ledger from the maternity ward.
