Chapter 10 - The Woman Who Refused the Throne

Lydia admitted Anna gave birth to a third child while the Whitmores controlled her housing and medical care.
The infant was removed through a private adoption and raised as Sloane.
She had spent years begging for entry into a family that had already stolen her identity.
“I helped Cameron humiliate my own sister,” Sloane whispered.
Evelyn did not offer easy forgiveness.
“Blood does not erase what you chose. Truth only gives you the chance to choose differently.”
Sloane testified against Lydia and Cameron, surrendered every promised benefit and entered restitution without special status.
Arthur lost the mansion, company title and honors that protected his reputation.
Cameron, Vale and Lydia received federal sentences.
Whitmore Hotels became worker-owned, pensions were restored and staff elected the board.
Evelyn remained Jacob’s guardian because he trusted her, not because of blood.
At the first employee gala, Jacob placed Cameron’s slim band inside the damaged cake stand beneath a plaque:
“A JOKE ENDS WHEN THE POWERFUL BECOME THE PUNCHLINE.”
Then Sloane delivered one unreleased clip.
It showed Amelia alive after the crash beside Thomas Reed, who was officially dead.

Thomas looked into the camera.
“Evelyn, do not give the company to the workers yet. They have already elected the person who killed me.”
