Chapter 9 - The Children Arthur Never Claimed
Arthur confessed that Anna Reed had been his first wife.
His father threatened to disinherit him if he acknowledged a kitchen worker as his spouse.
Arthur surrendered to the family and allowed the marriage record to disappear.
Anna raised Evelyn and Thomas alone while he married into Charleston society.
Evelyn’s voice shook.
“You watched me serve champagne at your galas while knowing I was your daughter.”
Arthur said he had protected them quietly.
“You protected your inheritance quietly,” she replied. “We carried the humiliation publicly.”
Thomas later demanded that Arthur restore worker ownership.
Arthur refused and used family influence to suppress the investigation after Thomas died in a warehouse accident.
Jacob faced him.
“You abandoned my father, then tried to control me because I had his shares.”
DNA confirmed Evelyn was Arthur’s daughter, but she rejected automatic ownership.
“I will not replace one bloodline dictatorship with another.”
Arthur’s shares went into worker restitution.
Cameron watched from jail as the “servant’s daughter” gave away the power he committed crimes to obtain.
