Chapter 5 - The Patriarch Who Protected the Name
Arthur admitted Amelia discovered Cameron borrowing against Jacob’s inheritance.
She planned to report him, but Arthur stopped her because a scandal might damage Whitmore Hotels.
Evelyn faced him beneath the chandelier.
“You stole workers’ ownership, then used their jobs to protect the thief. Employees are not your shield whenever your family commits a crime.”
Arthur struck his cane against the floor.
“I kept the company alive.”
“You kept the name alive,” Evelyn answered. “The workers kept the company alive.”
Amelia’s affidavit said Evelyn treated Jacob like a child rather than a voting proxy.
Cameron had mocked that choice for years.
He once told Jacob that Evelyn loved him only because his mother paid her.
Evelyn knelt beside the crying boy.
“No trust, mansion or last name can purchase why I love you.”
Arthur ordered Cameron removed.
For the first time, the heir was escorted through the service corridor he forced employees to use.
Then Amelia’s attorney arrived with her sealed crash report.
Her death had been called accidental.
