Chapter 3 - THE TRUST BUILT FROM WORKERS’ WAGES.

The envelope contained an old hotel trust agreement signed by Emma’s mother, Clara Reed.

Victoria laughed.

“Clara was a banquet worker. She had no authority to create anything.”

Marcus unfolded the second page.

Clara had not created the trust alone.

For decades, servers, housekeepers, cooks, and maintenance workers had contributed portions of their wages to save the hotel during bankruptcy. In exchange, they received protected ownership shares.

The Vale family later called those payments “voluntary loyalty.”

Emma looked at Victoria.

“My mother said rich people rename theft when the real word sounds ugly.”

Several employees lowered their eyes, remembering deductions they had never questioned.

Charles discovered Clara had been appointed trustee of the workers’ shares.

If she disappeared, authority passed to Emma.

Victoria’s accusation was designed to label the child dishonest before the transfer became public.

Then Charles reached the final clause.

Any executive who intimidated the trustee lost voting power immediately.

Victoria had triggered it herself.

But one signature was missing.

Clara’s death certificate had never been filed.
