Victoria admitted Clara had been placed in private care.
“She became obsessed with accounting records she was not educated enough to understand.”
Marcus’s jaw tightened.
“She found missing pension money.”
Victoria turned toward him.
“Staff members receive salaries. They do not become owners because they resent successful families.”
Emma looked up at her.
“My mother worked two jobs while you wore diamonds bought with her pension.”
Charles opened the clinic records attached to the trust.
Clara had been diagnosed as paranoid after accusing hotel executives of moving employee funds into private properties.
The examining doctor worked for the Vale Foundation.
He had never interviewed the employees whose money vanished.
Victoria called it medical judgment.
Charles called it convenient silence.
Then the security monitor showed footage from six months earlier.
Clara entered the ballroom through the service door, alive and frightened.
Victoria met her alone.
Clara handed her a sealed folder.
Victoria promised, “Sign away Emma’s claim, and I’ll let you see her.”
