Chapter 4 - THE ACCOUNT OPENED IN RUTH’S NAME.

Ruth stared at the statement as though it belonged to someone else.
“I never received that money.”
Forensic staff found the account had been opened using her Social Security number while she worked as a hospital cafeteria cashier. Funds moved through it for one day, then purchased shares in Caroline’s private medical company.
Caroline smiled faintly.
“Perhaps Ruth was not as innocent as she pretends.”
Olivia answered, “A low-wage worker’s identity is not consent simply because your lawyers found it useful.”
Ruth admitted signing blank payroll forms years earlier to keep her health insurance after Michael lost his job. One page had been converted into banking authority.
Emma looked at her grandmother.
“You signed because they threatened your medicine?”
Ruth nodded, ashamed.
The forged account made her look like she sold Lily.

The executive was Daniel Pierce, Emma’s grandfather—who had supposedly died before the twins were born.
