Chapter 7 - THE MOTHER WORKING ONE FLOOR ABOVE.

Dr. Amara Pierce entered the room wearing navy surgical scrubs.
Emma stared at the woman whose eyes matched hers.
Amara said Caroline and Daniel had told her both babies died after an emergency delivery. She spent eight years working inside the hospital that had stolen them.
Caroline called the story impossible.
Amara placed genetic results on the counter.
“They are my daughters.”
Emma did not rush into her arms.
“You were upstairs while Grandma raised me.”
Amara’s voice broke.
“I did not know you were alive.”
Ruth stepped back, refusing to compete for the child she loved.
“Emma chooses what happens next.”
Records showed Amara’s neonatal research created the monitoring system used across Pierce hospitals. The family patented it under Daniel’s name and used her royalties to finance the placement program.
Then Amara admitted she had discovered Lily one month earlier.
She had not told Ruth or Emma.
