Vanessa admitted meeting Anna in a Boston shelter after tracing the fertility records.
Anna begged her to help expose the Cole clinic and reunite the twins.
Vanessa refused.
She had just become engaged to Ethan and feared losing access to the family fortune if the truth emerged.
She offered Anna money to disappear.
Ruby’s voice shook.
“You knew our mother was sick.”
Vanessa snapped, “I gave her fifty thousand dollars. That was more money than she had ever seen.”
Ruby stepped closer.
“You handed a dying woman the cost of one designer gown and expected her to sell sixteen years of motherhood.”
Vanessa shouted that Anna accepted the payment.
Grace produced the bank record.
Anna never touched the money.
She sent it to a legal fund for other women harmed by the clinic.
Ethan removed Vanessa’s engagement ring.
“You did not hide the truth because you were afraid. You hid it because the truth threatened your seat at our table.”
Vanessa threw the ring onto the marble floor.
“You people taught me that belonging had a price. Do not punish me because I learned the lesson better than you did.”
Margaret answered with tears in her eyes.
“We taught you cruelty, but you chose to use it against a child.”
Employees from Cole Bridal began sharing records of unpaid overtime, coerced medical testing and pension deductions sent to the family foundation.
Ruby realized Anna’s case was only one part of a larger system.
Then investigators opened the fertility registry.
