Chapter 1 - The Lie Beside Lily

Sarah burst through the rain-soaked doors and found Lily crying beside a fallen red heel.

“Mom!”

She dropped to her knees, checked Lily’s face and arms, then lifted her tightly against her chest.

Victoria remained in the cream chair, calm enough to make cruelty look respectable.

“She broke my shoe and started screaming.”

Daniel rushed down the staircase.

“That is a lie. She raised the heel at Lily.”

Victoria’s eyes narrowed.

“Do not contradict me in my own house.”

Sarah turned her body between Lily and the adults.

“A mansion does not turn terror into discipline, Victoria. It only gives cowards a prettier room to commit it in.”

Daniel pointed toward the ceiling.

“The security camera recorded everything. I called Sarah before you erased the footage.”

Victoria froze.

Sarah ordered the arriving officers to preserve the shoe and every recording device.

One agent lifted the red heel and heard something rattle inside its broken sole.

A tiny encrypted memory card slid onto the marble.

Its label read: LILY—CUSTODY INCIDENT 4.

Sarah looked at Daniel.

“Four incidents?”

Daniel lowered his head.

Victoria smiled coldly.

“The first three worked.”

Then Lily whispered, “She said the judge already promised I would never see you again.”
