Chapter 6 - The Mother Behind the Locked Door

Federal agents raided the private school and found Teresa alive under a false identity.

For twenty-five years, reports had described her as delusional whenever she insisted the Harringtons had stolen her daughter.

Sarah met her inside a supervised medical room.

Teresa touched Sarah’s face but did not demand forgiveness.

“I fought until they made every honest word sound sick.”

Sarah’s voice broke.

“You were alive while I visited your grave.”

Teresa lowered her eyes.

“I stopped trying to escape when they threatened the foster mother who raised you.”

Eleanor claimed Teresa had received excellent care.

Teresa turned toward the camera recording the interview.

“They took my child, locked me away and sent bills to a charity funded by workers. Rich people call that care because prison sounds ugly at fundraisers.”

Her original ledgers proved domestic employees had financed the Harrington Children’s Fund through mandatory wage deductions.

Eleanor converted their money into a system used against their own families.

Daniel surrendered his family shares to an emergency worker trust.

Victoria laughed at him.

“You are giving a dynasty to cleaners and drivers.”

Daniel answered, “They already paid for it. We merely kept their names off the deed.”

Then Teresa revealed why Lily had been targeted so aggressively.

Sarah’s investigation was not the only threat.

On Lily’s fifth birthday, she would inherit voting rights connected to the workers’ stolen fund.

But the birth certificate listed a second child born minutes after Lily.

Sarah stared at the page.

“I gave birth to one daughter.”

Teresa whispered, “That is what they told you.”
