Chapter 4 - THE MAN WHO PROSECUTED HIS FIANCÉE.
Ryan Cole arrived within an hour, claiming attorney-client privilege over the documents.
Maya faced him across the cafeteria table.
“You prosecuted me with accounts you created.”
Ryan said she had accepted a plea and admitted guilt.
“I accepted because you threatened to charge my mother with conspiracy.”
He lowered his voice.
“Your mother kept her house.”
Maya answered loudly, “And you kept the company that bought it at foreclosure.”
The inspectors learned Ryan’s family investment fund owned a controlling interest in Price Hospitality. His prosecution had removed Maya from the audit and transferred her software to the company.
Rhea called Maya jealous because Ryan had chosen a woman from a respected family.
Maya looked at her.
“He did not choose class. He chose access.”
Denise produced letters from released women who were billed thousands of dollars for prison debt and then hired by Price hotels below minimum wage.
One letter came from Maya’s mother, Linda Torres.
Linda had never been incarcerated.

A staff photograph showed Linda inside the prison laundry the previous night.
