Chapter 5 - THE MOTHER LOCKED INSIDE THE LAUNDRY.

Evelyn claimed Linda entered as a volunteer teaching job skills.
Maya asked why a volunteer wore an inmate identification band.
Inspectors searched the laundry and found Linda locked inside an office, conscious but terrified.
She had come to confront Ryan after learning her mortgage was purchased with money taken from women’s prison accounts. Officers confiscated her phone and threatened to charge her with trespassing.
Linda held Maya’s face.
“I told you to take the plea because Ryan said he would leave you in county jail for years.”
Maya answered, “He made us choose which woman he would punish.”
Ryan denied ordering the detention.
A recorded call captured him saying, “Keep the mother until the daughter signs over the audit software.”
Evelyn blamed Rhea for interpreting the order too aggressively.
Rhea laughed.
“You paid me to make fear look unofficial.”
She offered to testify for immunity.
