THE WOMAN HE THREW DOWN. / Chapter 1 / 10

Chapter 1 - THE CALL THAT STOPPED THE WEDDING.

Claire hit the marble floor beneath the chandeliers while the groom’s polished shoes stopped inches from her silver clutch.

The bride looked down with a satisfied smile.

“You should have stayed away from this family,” she said.

Claire’s eyes burned with humiliation as wealthy guests stared and did nothing.

She opened her clutch, pulled out her phone and called one number.

“Dad… come inside. Now.”

The ballroom doors opened.

Victor Hale entered in a long black coat, his silver hair catching the cold light from the hallway. Conversations died as he crossed the marble.

The groom, Ethan Whitmore, tried to recover his arrogance.

“This is a private wedding.”

Victor looked at Claire on the floor.

“You put your hands on my daughter in front of witnesses.”

Ethan’s father stepped forward and whispered Victor’s name as though he had seen a ghost.

Then Victor picked up Claire’s fallen clutch.

Inside was a sealed contract transferring the Hale family’s controlling shares to Ethan after the wedding.

Claire had never signed it.
