Victor placed the forged contract on the champagne table where every guest could see it.
Ethan claimed Claire had agreed to transfer the shares as part of their reconciliation.
Claire rose slowly, one hand gripping her father’s arm.
“I came here because you said you wanted to apologize.”
The bride, Madison, laughed.
“She came because women from families like hers cannot resist a wealthy name.”
Victor’s expression hardened.
“My daughter’s family built the shipping network your wedding guests profit from.”
The Whitmores had spent years calling Claire “new money” because Victor began as a dockworker before buying the failing company where he worked.
Ethan’s mother, Eleanor, dismissed him as a lucky laborer.
Victor answered, “Luck did not unload ships at four in the morning.”
A handwriting expert confirmed Claire’s signature had been copied from hospital records.
The notary was Judge Malcolm Reed, seated at the head table.
