Claire did not ask the workers to forgive her.
“I benefited from money I did not know was taken, but not knowing did not return it.”
She placed her inheritance into an independent restitution fund and requested a full audit.
Ethan mocked her.
“You will make yourself poor to impress people who will forget you.”
Samuel answered, “Poor people remember who stood beside them because we cannot afford to forget.”
The audit revealed something worse.
Whitmore Capital had purchased worker debt at a discount, then used those claims to pressure families into surrendering trust shares.
Madison’s father owned the collection company.
The wedding was designed to combine the stolen Hale shares with the Whitmore debt portfolio.
Madison called it legal restructuring.
Claire replied, “You made workers choose between medicine and ownership, then called the signatures voluntary.”
Federal agents froze the accounts.
Then one file showed Victor had personally approved the first debt sale twenty years earlier.
