Chapter 1 - THE NAME INSIDE THE PORTFOLIO.

Brittany stood beneath the floral arch with anger still burning across her face when Mr. Collins placed the leather portfolio on the cocktail table.
“The owner has withdrawn permission for this wedding.”
Brittany stared at Elaine’s faint red cheek mark.
“Who owns this estate?”
Elaine rested one hand on the folder.
“Open it, and read the name you just assaulted.”
Adrian did it for her. The deed named Elaine Mercer as sole managing trustee of Rosewood Estate.
Brittany laughed once, certain it had to be a trick.
“Adrian told me this belonged to his father’s family.”
Elaine looked at her son.
“And that lie is his responsibility.”
The ownership clause allowed Elaine to end any event where a beneficiary, worker or invited guest was publicly abused.
Brittany ordered the staff to continue serving.
Not one employee moved.
Then Collins opened the second document.

The wedding deposit had not been paid by Brittany’s family.
It had come from the estate employees’ emergency medical fund.
