Chapter 8 - THE SURGERY THE WORKERS FUNDED.
Elaine admitted approving the withdrawal when Adrian needed emergency surgery and insurance refused coverage.
She intended to repay the fund after selling her apartment, but Michael stopped her and promised to replace the money through future profits.
He never did.
Rosa looked at Adrian.
“My mother skipped treatment that year.”
Adrian did not hide behind being a child.
“I did not choose the payment, but my life benefited from it. Restore every affected family before I receive any inheritance.”
The interim board placed Mercer assets under restitution review. Elaine agreed to testify about her own breach of trust.
Brittany asked whether anyone in the ballroom was innocent.
Rosa answered, “Innocence is not the standard. Truth and repair are.”
Charles and Vivian offered evidence against Adrian in exchange for preserving their bank.
The workers refused.
Then Collins recovered security footage from the mirrored foyer.
