Margaret Lane had supervised Rosewood’s kitchens and contributed nearly every dollar she saved to purchase the gardens.
Vivian later removed her mother’s name from family records after marrying into the Whitmore banking dynasty.
Brittany stared at the formal portraits lining the ballroom.
“You told me she was an employee we helped.”
Vivian answered, “I gave you a life she could never provide.”
Rosa’s voice remained steady.
“You escaped being treated as poor by teaching your daughter to despise poor women.”
Brittany removed her engagement tiara and surrendered all assets traced to the garden sale. She did not ask the room to praise her.
Adrian admitted he knew Margaret’s history before proposing. Charles had shown him the ledger and warned that revealing it could weaken the merger.
Brittany’s humiliation shifted toward him.
“You knew who my grandmother was while I mocked your mother’s background.”
Adrian said he feared losing her.
Elaine replied, “Then you loved the version of her that depended on a lie.”
