Chapter 4 - THE MOTHER WHO SOLD THE SERVANTS’ GARDEN.
Brittany’s mother, Vivian Whitmore, arrived from the hotel suite and claimed her family inherited the eastern gardens decades earlier.
Elaine opened Rosewood’s original boundary map.
The land had belonged to twelve domestic workers who purchased it collectively after the former owner withheld wages during bankruptcy.
Elaine had been their attorney and later their elected trustee.
Vivian’s father acquired the garden through a tax sale after notices were mailed to employees who no longer lived at the mansion.
Rosa recognized several names.
“My mother was one of them. She never received a notice.”
Vivian called the sale legal.
Elaine answered, “Legality is not innocence when your family controlled the bank, the mailroom and the buyer.”
The wedding pavilion stood on that disputed land.
The employee descendants filed an emergency claim, and the county froze the property transfer.
Then Brittany found her own signature on the garden sale agreement.
She had signed it during wedding planning.
The witness was Elaine.
