Chapter 3 - THE INHERITANCE BEHIND THE ATTACK.

The Hale attorney insisted Emma’s shares were symbolic until she turned eighteen.

A probate judge disagreed. Evan’s will placed the voting rights with an independent guardian if any family member denied or endangered his child.

Margaret’s attack activated the clause.

Robert accused Claire of engineering the confrontation.

“You came here hoping my wife would react.”

Claire’s voice stayed level.

“I came because your invitation said Emma would finally be welcomed by her father’s family.”

The invitation had been sent from Robert’s account. He admitted signing it but claimed Margaret drafted the message.

Emma’s shares controlled a housing company that owned twelve suburban developments. Tenants had reported mold, heating failures and illegal late fees while the Hale family hosted charity galas.

Claire recognized several addresses.

“They evicted families from my clinic’s waiting room while reporting record profits.”

The judge froze the board and ordered an audit.

Evan had created a repair fund for low-income tenants.
