Chapter 5 - THE SIGNATURE CLAIRE COULD NOT DENY.
Claire admitted she had worked as a scheduling assistant at Hale Residential before becoming a medical aide.
On the day Evan died, her supervisor told her to confirm a routine calendar change. The link she clicked attached her signature to the canceled safety order.
“I did not read the hidden page,” she said.
Margaret smiled coldly.
“So the grieving mother helped cause the accident.”
Claire refused the trap.
“My negligence must be investigated. It does not erase the person who designed the document.”
Luis confirmed executives often placed legal approvals behind ordinary scheduling links used by hourly staff. Salaried managers received full contracts; low-wage assistants were given buttons and deadlines.
The investigator seized Claire’s old work account.
It showed the link had been created by Robert’s office.
Then another file appeared: Claire had accepted twenty-five thousand dollars from Hale Residential after Evan’s death.
She lowered her eyes.
“They called it severance. I used it for Emma’s delivery and rent.”
Robert leaned forward.
