THE FILE IN HIS SUITCASE / Chapter 1 / 10

Chapter 1 - THE SUITCASES THAT STOPPED THE LOBBY.

Claire Mitchell rolled two black suitcases across the marble lobby of Lawson Global while every conversation died around her.

She stopped in front of Lila Parker.

“You’re Lila Parker?”

The intern’s confidence vanished.

“Yes.”

“Congratulations. From now on, he’s your responsibility. Every suit, every shoe, every lie he carried home is inside.”

Lila whispered, “He told me your marriage was over.”

Claire raised her phone.

“He lied to both of us. The difference is—I saved every message, reservation and recording.”

The elevator opened. Ethan Lawson rushed out, grabbed one suitcase and spilled his clothes across the floor.

“Claire, what did you do?”

“I stopped protecting the life you destroyed.”

A senior executive appeared behind him.

“The board has the recordings. They’re waiting upstairs.”

Claire took her personal suitcase and turned away.

Ethan shouted, “What else did you send them?”

“The file you thought I’d never find.”

His face collapsed.

The file was labeled VETERANS TRANSITION FUND—PRIVATE TRANSFERS.
