Claire explained that the hotel meeting was not romantic.
Marcus had asked her to review evidence that Lawson Global was selling veteran applications to private lenders.
She had promised to investigate quietly because Ethan warned that public accusations would destroy jobs.
Marcus wanted immediate disclosure.
Claire chose delay.
“I believed I could fix it without collapsing the company,” she said.
Rosa’s eyes hardened.
“Marcus died while powerful people waited for a convenient truth.”
Claire surrendered her role in the investigation and asked an independent veteran council to control the evidence.
Ethan tried to use her confession as protection.
“She hid things too.”
Claire faced him.
“I delayed justice. You profited from the delay. Both choices will be reviewed.”
The council found Lawson Global had shared applicants’ medical histories with employers, landlords and insurers. Veterans who disclosed trauma were denied jobs while their stories appeared in fundraising videos.
Then Marcus’s final recording named the person who sold the files.
