Claire recognized the token from a military-family employment partnership she had signed six months earlier.
The document she saw authorized job interviews for veterans’ spouses. A hidden attachment gave Lawson Global access to her identity credentials for “verification.”
Ethan smiled weakly.
“You signed it.”
Claire faced him.
“A grieving employee misses one clause and loses benefits. A corporation hides one clause and calls the theft consent.”
The board suspended Ethan and ordered a federal audit.
Lila admitted she had created advertisements showing veterans receiving apartments that did not exist. Her manager told her the images were placeholders.
“I believed the campaign would become real after funding,” she said.
Claire did not excuse her.
“Belief does not house the families who trusted your work.”
The audit found thirty-eight veterans had been rejected as unstable after complaining.
Their evaluations came from a private clinic owned by Ethan’s mother, Margaret Lawson.
One rejected applicant was Claire’s former platoon sergeant, Marcus Reed.
