Chapter 2 - THE FUND THAT PAID FOR HIS AFFAIR.

The boardroom recordings proved Ethan had used corporate apartments, travel accounts and executive assistants to hide the affair.
But Claire’s file revealed something worse.
Lawson Global had promised jobs and housing assistance to veterans returning from overseas deployments. Millions had been transferred into a marketing fund managed through Lila’s department.
Ethan called it temporary restructuring.
Claire looked at the directors.
“Veterans were told their applications were delayed while executives used their housing money for penthouses and private dinners.”
Lila stared at the transfer authorizations.
“I designed recruitment campaigns. I never saw these accounts.”
A director replied, “Interns are not paid to ask where the money comes from.”
Claire’s voice hardened.
“That sentence is how powerful people turn low-paid workers into disposable shields.”
Ethan blamed the chief financial officer.
Then Claire played a recording of him saying, “Keep the veteran fund quiet until the merger closes.”
The final transfer carried Claire’s electronic signature.
