Chapter 2 - THE SON THEY DECLARED DEAD.

Henry stared at the family-tree line connecting Ruby to Ethan.

“My son died seven years ago.”

The attorney opened the hospital audit. Ethan had not died in the boating accident reported by the Ashford family office. He had entered a federal witness program after accusing the foundation of laundering estate assets through private adoptions.

Diane laughed nervously.

“You expect us to believe a billionaire’s son vanished to protect street children?”

Ruby gripped Mara’s hand.

“I’m not a street child. I have a name.”

The room went quiet.

Eleanor admitted Ethan had secretly married Claire Bennett, a banquet server at an Ashford hotel. When Claire became pregnant, the family called her an opportunist and offered money to disappear.

Claire refused. Three months later, she lost custody after a foundation psychologist labeled her unstable.

Mara asked who signed the emergency removal.
