Chapter 7 - THE PIN THAT OPENED EVERY LOCK.
Rosa admitted the foundation threatened to prosecute Claire for attempting to retrieve Ruby from a foster placement.
“I bought my daughter freedom with money stolen from other workers.”
Mara’s voice was quiet.
“Fear explains the bargain. It does not return the cases buried afterward.”
Rosa surrendered the settlement with interest and declined automatic control of the worker trust.
The audit separated each wrong. Rosa’s coerced silence did not erase Eleanor’s fraud. Henry’s negligence did not erase Diane’s humiliation of Ruby. Diane’s false identity did not erase the board members who benefited.
Then officers examined the jeweled VIP pin Diane placed on the table.
It was not merely a credential. Its chip opened restricted adoption archives, donor vaults and the certified DNA station.
Security footage showed Diane using it before the gala to replace the family cartridge.
Diane finally admitted she knew the match was false.
“Eleanor said Ruby would destroy thousands of jobs.”
