Chapter 31 - THE MAN WHO RETURNED WITH THE PATENTS.
Thomas Whitmore entered the emergency board meeting carrying the patent portfolio that powered every Whitmore factory.
“You may dissolve the holding company,” he said. “But the workers cannot use one protected system without my licenses.”
Claire stared at him.
“Those inventions were built by machinists and engineers whose names your family removed.”
Thomas smiled.
“They were paid wages. Ownership requires capital and judgment.”
Rosa Delgado rose from the worker section.
“My husband lost three fingers keeping Newark alive while you collected royalties from an office.”
Thomas announced that every license would expire in forty-eight hours if Claire transferred the plants to employee control. Twelve factories would stop.
Adrian stepped beside her.
“You waited until they finally owned the company, then priced their right to operate it.”
Thomas opened one final document.

At the bottom was Arthur Whitmore’s signature.
