Chapter 52 - THE GATES THE OWNERS LOCKED.

Riverbend workers were trapped while executives claimed the lockdown protected machinery from sabotage.

Marcus used a maintenance radio to move teams away from the defective line.

Claire contacted federal marshals, but the county sheriff refused entry.

“The company owns the property.”

Evelyn answered, “The workers own their bodies. Open the gate.”

Campaign records showed the sheriff had received donations from Riverbend’s parent company. He called them legal.

Marcus shouted from inside, “Legal is the word rich men use when paperwork survives what people do not.”

Workers cut power without damaging equipment. The gates remained sealed.

Claire authorized emergency entry and accepted liability if the shutdown proved unnecessary.

When marshals opened the gate, company attorneys accused the workers of attempted theft.

Then smoke rose above the casting room.
