Chapter 33 - THE NIGHT THE WORKERS LOCKED THE GATES.
By midnight, hundreds of Newark workers had locked the factory gates from the inside.
They did not damage equipment. They stood beside the machines their parents had operated and refused to let Thomas’s trustees remove them.
Claire arrived without private security.
Machinist Evelyn Price confronted her.
“Do not come here as another billionaire asking us to stay calm while lawyers steal the floor beneath us.”
Claire handed her the factory keys.
“I came because this place belongs to the people inside it.”
Thomas obtained an emergency injunction describing the workers as trespassers, though their pension money had financed the plant.
Daniel Whitmore recognized the judge as a secret trustee of the patent fund.
Then he opened an abandoned control room with a key Thomas Bennett had given him.
Inside was one sealed film reel.
Thomas Bennett appeared on the screen.
“If the patent trust is ever used against the workers, find the thirteenth witness before the Whitmores find him first.”
