Chapter 42 - THE APPRENTICE WHO OPENED THE BYPASS.
Caleb appeared on the factory screens before anyone could find him.
“I opened the bypass because Thomas promised the line would stop safely,” he said. “I was seventeen, tired and desperate to keep my apprenticeship.”
Claire answered, “Then why hide for nineteen years?”
“Because the Whitmores offered my mother treatment only if I accepted guardianship and silence.”
Caleb revealed that Leonard changed the labels, Thomas Bennett designed the staged shutdown and Thomas Whitmore supplied the unstable replacement component. Three powerful men created the disaster, then blamed the workers who followed instructions.
Thomas Whitmore called Caleb a liar.
Caleb played the original engineering call.
Thomas’s voice said, “If the component fails, the insurance money saves the company.”
Rosa stared at him.
“Twelve workers became your financing plan.”
Federal agents moved toward Thomas, but he activated the patent trust’s emergency clause. Every factory alarm sounded at once.
